CCTR’s Dog Tails of Summer – Mary Jo – Adopted 5/6/2026

We lost our Cairn terrier (Bentley) of almost 16 years in October of 2025. We were heartbroken. So, we decided that instead of going back to get a puppy this time we would rescue a Cairn terrier. My wife located Cairns & Cousins on the web and long story short we adopted Mary Jo.

Mary Jo is a fantastic middle-aged dog. Loves her toys and chasing them through the house is her favorite past time. Unfortunately, she is a different dog outside of the house. Very timid and scared of noises. Since we are retired and have extra time, we have been taking her out 3 times a day and she has made great strides in feeling comfortable with us outside. Most importantly she is a very loving dog. She is so attached to us she waits at the door when we leave and sleeps in her dog bed next to our bed. In a short couple of months, we have become very attached to her. Our goal is to make the second half of her life better than the first half.

Our experience with Cairns & Cousins has been fantastic. From the vetting process to getting Mary Jo. We would also like to thank Elspeth & Gary, Mary Jo’s foster, they were open and honest with us about Mary Jo and very flexible working with our schedule. We could tell they love dogs and were happy for her to get a good home but also sad to see her leave.

BTW – She absolutely loves the new larger dog bed. You can almost see her smile
