I adopted Betsy in September. She was absolutely quiet the first 24 hours. As she relaxed she found her voice, mostly squeaks and grumbles. Then she found her “outside” voice, used for announcing squirrels or alerting me to activity in the yard or alley.
From the first day, she loved our frequent neighborhood walks. Initially, she was tentative about meeting any 2 or 4 legged creature we encountered. Her reaction has changed from tentative to comfortable to friendly when meeting neighbors, other pedestrians, and the great variety of dogs that walk this neighborhood. All the neighbors recognize her and tell her what a sweet dog she is.
Her favorite toy is a squishy ball that she carries around the house and a food-dispensing ball that gets her scampering all around the kitchen and under chairs. She now has her favorite places in the house—one is near the back door so she can keep an eye on the back yard, the other is my reading chair. We have agreed to share it. We are both happily adjusting.
