I'm not quite ready to go to my new home.

Hi! My Name Is Wilbur (C-1121) MI

I'm in the Recovery Room - I'll Be Available Soon

10/11/2026    Wilbur proves the point about cairn terriers: He is a happy and mischievous companion to his foster dogs, cat, and mom!

While he patiently waits for the veterinary dental appointment that will correct a mouthful of rotten teeth, abscesses, and possible disintegrating jawbone, Wilbur is enjoying leashed walks, car rides, and watching television. While paying due respect to his dog companions, he is learning how a playful tussle starts the day off right, and he makes friends with everyone he meets at his local farmers’ market. He doesn't require a fenced yard -- although he'd love one!

Wilbur is very much a "mama's boy," following his foster mom from room to room, at all hours of the day and night. After 8 years without loving human contact, he's still trying to figure out what this "cuddle" thing is, but he quickly discovered that a lap is the best place for a nap!

09/13/2026   You would never guess that this little gentleman spent all 8 years of his life as breeding stock, without the care and socialization of people who love him. After just a few weeks in the care of CCTR volunteers, he has discovered a new life filled with affection, healthy food, toys and games. With a mischievous glint in his eye, and a spunky lift of his tail, Wilbur is embarking on the life that had been stolen from him.

Before he can finally experience the health that is every dog’s due, however, Wilbur has some challenges ahead. For instance, years of neglect have resulted in a mouthful of rotten teeth, abscesses, and disintegrating jawbone.

Despite facing a bill of many thousands of dollars, CCTR is committed to providing the major dental surgery he requires. Wilbur will also be evaluated for the management or surgical correction of his bilateral patellar luxation, also a condition he has suffered with for many years.

Despite all of this, Wilbur loves life. He “doggedly” keeps pace with his foster mom’s every step, he enjoys car rides and watching television, and he makes friends with everyone he meets at his local farmers’ market. Since he loves to walk on a leash, he doesn't require a fenced yard -- although he'd love one! Wilbur’s character and curiosity is a perfect example of what makes a cairn a true cairn terrier.
