Our Story

Cairns & Cousins Terrier Rescue (CCTR) was organized with the mission of rescuing purebred and mixed cairn terriers and their cousin breeds who are known to be homeless or soon to be homeless. It was established in March 2025 by a core group of six dedicated volunteers who have been associated with dog rescue organizations for several years. Collectively they bring more than 96 years of experience in the rescue business, offering the skill and expertise necessary to establish a quality non-profit charity which addresses the welfare of neglected animals. Because of their experience and vision, we have been able to recruit a team of 60+ volunteers who have worked in various areas of animal rescue, bringing to Cairns & Cousins Terrier Rescue (CCTR) a wealth of talent and a broad band of competence.

Cairns & Cousins Terrier Rescue (CCTR) is completely volunteer-driven. We are a network of volunteers, scattered throughout the United States. Contact between volunteers is by email, phone calls, virtual meetings, and sometimes in passing, we might meet in person as we transport dogs from homelessness to a clinic for veterinary care, and then to a foster home to rehabilitate for placement in an adoptive home.  There are no salaried positions or consultants in our organization. We have no physical headquarters to maintain. The expenses we have are for veterinary services, materials, supplies, and equipment needed to care for our dogs as we take them through initial intake and foster home placement, and continuing until an acceptable adoptive home has been identified. We rely on donations and money raised through fundraising efforts to provide for these expenses.
